GDC Apprentice Program

MISSION

The mission of Gotta Dance Contemporary’s Pre-Professional Apprentice Program is to provide an opportunity for talented young artists to pursue a career in dance.  It is designed to give students advanced skills and understanding in classical ballet and contemporary techniques as well as the associated skills and knowledge essential to becoming a professional dancer.

 

ABOUT GDC APPRENTICE PROGRAM

Gotta Dance Contemporary’s Pre-Professional Apprentice Program provides a unique opportunity for aspiring professional dancers to attend a nine-month training program with Atlanta’s leading contemporary dance company.

 

Open to dance students from graduating seniors and up, this nine-month program consisting of three 3-month terms will offer students the chance to work with some of Atlanta’s most successful and award winning choreographers with a performance opportunity at the end of the nine-month program.  Students will develop their technique, artistry and performance skills alongside members of GDC’s Company led by Artistic Director, Rachel Truitt.

 

Gotta Dance Contemporary’s commitment to excellence and artistic innovation are core values of the Apprentice program. There will be numerous opportunities for students to engage with the Company, from learning Company repertoire, to taking part in the Company class and studying Limon-based technique with Artistic Director Rachel Truitt.

 

COURSE OUTCOME

GDC’s Program aims to develop creative and physically refined contemporary dance artists ready for the professional industry. You will gain insight into the full spectrum of contemporary dance practice and what it can offer including an understanding of the independent dance sector and auditioning for professional dance companies.

 

Students also have the opportunity to attend Gotta Dance Atlanta’s adult open classes in a variety of dance styles at a reduced price.

 

COURSE STRUCTURE

Course components include:
• Contemporary dance technique
• Classical ballet technique
• Repertoire classes with members of GDC’s Company members
• Professional practice including audition techniques
• Choreographic development and performance opportunities

 

AUDITIONS

Our audition process can initiate admission into the program. Students must be available for nine-months and must show talent and commitment.  If you are unable unable to attend the auditions, please contact Rachel Tuitt at info@got2dance.net to receive information regarding video submissions.

 

Please bring the following to the audition:

  • Headshot

  • Resume

  • One Letter of Recommendation

  • If applying for financial assistance, please provide proof of household income. This should be a copy of your most recent Federal Tax Returns and two recent paycheck stubs, if applicable.

 

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Gotta Dance Contemporary’s Pre-Professional Apprentice Program also provides financial assistance as needed to make pre-professional training available to every talented, committed student.  Financial Aid may include partial or full waiver.  Please contact Rachel Truitt at info@got2dance.net to apply for financial aid.  

 

PROGRAM DATES

Summer Term:  June through August

Fall Term:  September through November

Winter Term:  January through March

Performance:  7 Stages Theatre:  (TBA)   Student must enroll in all three terms to participate in the performance.

 

Please note:  Groupons or GDA Class Passes are not valid towards any Apprentice classes.
