Shari “Mimi Cheverez” Baskin, born in Brooklyn, NY, has lived in Atlanta, GA since her youth.  She began her dance training at 4 years old, and describes herself as having “Salsa’d her way out the womb”.  Due to hardships, Mimi was unable to continue with her initial training, but she would still find ways to dance: copying the choreography from music videos in her living room, coordinating Latin and Afro-Caribbean dance pieces for high school shows—anything to dance!  Mimi later joined the African-American based Pamoja Dance Company while studying at the University of Georgia, dancing and choreographing hip hop and Caribbean routines.  She also coordinated numerous routines and has performed for various student events, multicultural organizations, and productions both at the University and in Atlanta, and even started a Latin dance group for UGA students.  Yet, Mimi still felt the need for strict training and discipline in dance, and upon returning to Atlanta, she received the opportunity to further her training in hip hop and jazz at Gotta Dance Atlanta.

Having developed a unique form of Caribbean and Latin dance fitness for her co-workers and former classmates, Mimi discovered Zumba and knew right away what she needed to do! Since then, she has been blazing gyms and dance studios alike with the sizzling, calorie-burning moves of Zumba® dance fitness! Mimi dances with the theatrical hip hop dance crew Darlin’ Nikki, the Purple Elephant Society, and the all-female Latin performance team Dangerous Curves.
